PCAL Names Monica Brice 2016-2017 Statewide Bus Driver of the Year

PCAL-Arcadia-011-SELECTED-WEB.jpgArcadia, Louisiana — On Thursday, March 2, 2017, Monica Brice of Bienville PSB was named 2016-2017 Statewide Bus Driver of the Year by PCAL in recognition of her distinguished service.  Now in its 13th year, the PCAL Bus Driver of the Year program recognizes drivers based upon multiple driver attributes including Leadership, Attitude, Perseverance, Student and Parent Relationships, and Technical Skill.

Eleven PCAL Member drivers have been honored as their Parish’s 2016-2017 Bus Driver of the Year. From those eleven drivers, three were named 2016-2017 PCAL Regional Bus Driver of the Year. This designation, which is reserved for a smaller group of Parish Bus Driver of the Year recipients, represents an even higher level of dedication and accomplishment.

On Thursday night, Ms. Brice was presented with the 2016-2017 PCAL Statewide Bus Driver of the Year award. This designation is awarded to just one PCAL Parish school bus driver and represents the highest level of dedication and accomplishment.

Brice was presented with a $1,000 check, a personalized jacket, a commendation and an engraved plaque from the PCAL Bus Driver of the Year program.

Pat Darbonne and Alisa Myatt, Account Managers for Risk Services of Louisiana, presented Ms. Brice with the Statewide award on behalf of PCAL.

Ms. Brice has been driving a bus for 17 years, 13 of those for Bienville PSB. Additionally, she is a certified CDL instructor and provides classes to children on proper behavior and safety when riding a school bus. She remarked that she was surprised to receive the award, noting that she thought she was there to discuss the classes she teaches.

“We’re honored to recognize the effort, sacrifice and great care exhibited by school bus drivers throughout the PCAL program,” said Rick Edwards, President of Edwards Risk Management, Inc.  “When I consider the heartfelt praise offered by other school bus drivers, supervisors, school staff, students and parents, it stands out in my mind that the accomplishments extend beyond competent driving. It also speaks volumes to these drivers’ humility, gentle spirits, gracious demeanor and servant hearts, even as many of them have dealt with their own life struggles.”
